The province of Manitoba has experienced an exceptionally warmer than average period Of weather over the the past week, however that won’t last much longer as a Colorado low is developing in the states. That is expected to impact Manitoba towards the latter half of the weekend. Read on ,, to find out how that will affect us.
Friday Night: Cloudy skies are expected for the night with a influx of cooler air from the north, overnight lows, will drop into the mid minus single digits to near zero (0 to -6C). Winnipeg: Cloudy low 0C Brandon: Cloudy low -3C, Dauphin: Cloudy low -6C.
Saturday: Will be one of the calmer days , we will be on the southern end of a area of high pressure in Alberta and northern Saskatchewan with a developing area of low pressure this will allow a northerly to northwesterly flow to remain in place. Partly cloudy to cloudy skies are expected for the day, some sun might manage to sneak through. Temperatures will be around seasonal but quite cool, expect the majority of high temperatures to rise into the low to mid single digits. Areas in the parklands will only warm into the low minus single digits (-1 to -4C). Winnipeg: Cloudy, high plus 4C wind NW 30km/h. Brandon: Cloudy high plus 1C wind North 20km/h. Dauphin: Cloudy, high -2C.
Saturday night: An area of low pressure will start approaching the region, this will be the weather maker for Sunday. Cloudy skies are expected, an area of showers will move into south central and south eastern regions of Manitoba with patchy freezing rain and sleet development in areas of southwestern Manitoba and the parklands region overnight into the morning. The freezing rain, sleet is expected to move east northeast through the night. It’s expected to be light in terms of accumulation 0.5mm to 1mm, the freezing rain and sleet will end before sunrise. Temperatures will drop to the low to mid single digits in the south central to southeast (0 to 7C) as the warm front starts lifting north, whereas areas in the central interlakes, parklands and SW Manitoba will see lows drop the into the low minus single digits to slightly near zero (0 to -6C). Winnipeg: Cloudy, 60% chance of showers. Low 2C. Brandon: Cloudy, 60% chance of showers , risk of freezing rain/sleet low -1C. Dauphin: Cloudy, 60% chance of freezing rain and sleet , low -3C.
Sunday: This will be one of the busier days of the weekend in terms of weather, The low pressure system that I was talking about on Saturday will be impacting a majority of southern Manitoba on the day Sunday into Monday. Majority of the precipitation should be falling as rain to freezing rain and a rain snow mix in my forecast area, precipitation in areas outside my region (Northern Manitoba) will fall as snow. Areas along a line from Southwestern Manitoba through the parklands Precipitation will fall as a mixed precipitation or freezing rain/sleet. About 1-2mm of freezing rain is expected!!! Areas from south of the parklands into the red River valley portions of southwestern Manitoba and Southeastern Manitoba will fall as rain. There will also be warm enough air for a risk of thunderstorms if the warm front can manage to move far enough north the risk will mainly be a long line from TransCanada highway including Winnipeg and south to the American border towards Southeastern Manitoba with a higher likelihood of thunderstorms in northern North Dakota. Temperatures for the day Will be in sharp contrast between winter in south western Manitoba and Fall in areas of Southeastern Manitoba. I am expecting temperatures in the south western portion of Manitoba to be from 0°C especially along the freezing rain line and temperatures in the towards the low minus single digits (-1 to -4C) in the parklands regions. Areas in the south western portion Manitoba and the red river valley will be from the mid to high single digits to low double digits (7-14C). Winnipeg: 60% chance of showers, with the risk of a thunderstorm high 14 Celsius. Brandon: 60% chance of rain and freezing rain. High 0C, temperatures falling to -1C in the evening. Dauphin: 60% chance of freezing rain mixed with sleet and wet snow. High -3 Celsius.
Sunday night: The low pressure system will start lifting north into central regions of Manitoba, cold air will start filtering in behind it the majority of the rain and Sleet will begin to change over to snow in regions of parklands Manitoba and the Interlake regions. Snow doesn’t look as likely in southern regions of Manitoba . A few flurries may occur however. There is a likelihood of arctic air filtering in to the province which will dramatically drop temperatures in central regions. Overnight expect temperatures to drop into the high minus single digits in the south western portion of Manitoba and Central park land regions (-3 to -10C). Areas in south eastern Manitoba and RedRivervalley regions will Drop into the mid single digits (0 to 8C). Winnipeg: Showers ending late evening, then cloudy. Low -1°C. Brandon rain or freezing rain ending early evening transitioning to light snow in late evening then cloudy. Low -3°C. Dauphin: Freezing rain ending late in the evening transitioning to snow overnight, low -7°C.
Monday and the second half of the week: Cold arctic air is expected to filter in to the province for the first half of the week also with a northwestern the flow coming in behind the low pressure system snow and flurries are possible on Monday and Tuesday as the system starts to travel to the east, temperatures will drop dramatically where daytime highs and overnight lows will be in the mid minus single digits.
Watch Manitoba weather centre for updates on the situation and Justin been monitoring the weather over the next 24 to 48 hours in regards to the freezing rain and snow as well as thunderstorm potential.
