Calm weekend with near seasonal temperatures, some good news as well.

 Southern Manitoba has been in a below normal, to near normal temperature pattern as forecasted earlier this week, that looks to continue into the weekend I also have some good news find out read on more to find out what that is. 

Cold to start the week with warmer temperatures arriving

Everyone I’m back from a short break a well needed one as I have been working on blog posts for the majority of the summer and fall . Post will be sporadic but they will still be posted in the event that we have any major changes in weather. In regards to this week Southern Manitoba can expect a cooler than average start to the week as a large area of high-pressure will be establishing himself over the Canadian provinces, that will be the weather maker for the week ahead. 

Above Tuesday will be the last cooler than average day of the week before it warms up on Wednesday.

Monday: Area of high-pressure will be moving towards the province of Manitoba throughout the day on Monday. The day ahead on Monday will start off mostly cloudy for a majority of regions in the southern half of the province, some partly cloudy skies may be around in the interlakes. Sunshine expected in the afternoon for the majority of the southern half of the province. Northerly winds can be expected throughout the day ahead of the area of high-pressure, temperatures will not budge much for the day I’m only expecting High temperatures to rise into the mid to  high minus single digits, in general anywhere from -6°C to -10°C. Forecast; Winnipeg: Cloudy in the morning then sunny, high -6C. Brandon: Cloudy , then becoming sunny in the afternoon high -3C. 

Monday Night: Partly cloudy skies then cloudy skies are expected for the night on Monday, around the morning hours cloudy skies are expected for majority of the region. As cloudy skies are expected to be in place temperatures won’t drop much. Low temperatures in southern Manitoba will drop into the high minus single digits and Low minus double digit temperatures,  especially in areas that are in the red river valley and lakes region. This means that The red river valley will see low temperatures between -10°C and -14°C with the windchill is getting closer to -20°C. Overnight low temperatures for the rest of southern Manitoba will be between -7°C and -10°C. Forecast, Winnipeg: cloudy, low -12°C windchill -18°C. Brandon: cloudy Low-10°C.  

Tuesday: As mentioned above the area of high-pressure will be moving through southern Manitoba on Tuesday as it moves through the province Palm conditions are expected with partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies. Majority of the region will see temperatures in the mid single digits with some regions seeing temperatures in the low minus single digits (-1 to -7C). Winnipeg: partly cloudy high -3°C. Brandon: Partly cloudy high temperature -4°C. 

Tuesday Night: There will also be cloudy skies on Tuesday night and into Wednesday. Temperatures on Tuesday night will warm as the area of high-pressure moves out to the east this will allow our temperatures to rise gradually overnight. This means that mid minus single digits in the evening will rise to the low minus single digits overnight. This will mean that temperatures will drop between -5°C and -1°C in extreme south western portions of Manitoba. Winnipeg:  cloudy Low -2°C, Brandon: cloudy low -4°C.

 Wednesday: Mainly cloudy skies are expected in the morning with Sunny skies for the afternoon with a mix of sun and cloud expected. An approaching low-pressure system will be drawing in a southerly airmass for the day on Wednesday, as a result a majority of southern Manitoba will be experiencing above normal temperatures for the day on Wednesday. Temperatures will be in the range of 4°C to 10°C with the warmer temperatures expected towards the American border. Winnipeg: Sunny and high temperature 8°C, Brandon: sunny high temperature 5°C.

The second half of the week looks to have an area of low pressure move through the province of Manitoba which will drop our temperatures for the latter half of the week, it is really difficult at this point in time to figure out if we will be getting any precipitation as the frontal system goes through we will monitor this for further updates. 

Slightly cold weekend followed by a winter storm!!

 The province of Manitoba has experienced an exceptionally warmer than average period Of weather over the the past week, however that won’t last much longer as a Colorado low is developing in the states. That is expected to impact Manitoba towards the latter half of the weekend. Read on ,, to find out how that will affect us. 

Heat Wave coming to southern Manitoba.

 This week will be the beginning of a well above average temperature trend, you can thank that to an area of high pressure and a building ridge over the west coast. Find out how this will impact our weather this week. Read on to find out...

 A look at the warmer than average temperatures expected for the day on Tuesday!! Enjoy it well you can . 

Monday Night: Will be a calm night, light winds are expected out of the W to SW. Clear skies are expected not really anything huge in terms of weather conditions, overnight low temperatures will drop from slightly below zero into the mid single digits (-1 to 5C). Winnipeg: Clear, low 0C. Brandon: Clear low 0C. Dauphin: Clear to partly cloudy low , 5C. 

Tuesday: Will be one of the warmest days of the week, a majority of southern regions of the province can expect a southerly wind along with sunny skies . ushering in temperatures in the mid to high double digits (12-18C). Winnipeg: Sunny high 13C. Brandon: Sunny, high 14C. Dauphin: Sunny high 16C. 

Tuesday Night: Clear skies are expected with a majority of the region still remaining under the ridge. Some light cloud will filter into the southwest part of Manitoba into the morning hours. Overnight lows will drop into slightly below (0C to 6C). Winnipeg: Clear, low 1C, Brandon: Clear, then partly cloudy low 0C. Dauphin: Partly cloudy, low 5C.

Wednesday: A small low pressure system will move through during the early morning hours, this will bring in some light cloudcover but the sun should still manage to peak out.  Winds will shift to the NW during the afternoon then to the W, temperatures will soar into the low to mid double digits (10 to 16C). Winnipeg: Partly cloudy, high 12C. Brandon: Sunny, high 14C. Dauphin: Sunny high 10C.

Wednesday Night: A cold front will likely move southeast during the evening hours, behind it increasing amounts of cloud cover will filter in and this is crucial as there will be some prevention of overnight lows dropping well below zero. A large majority of southern Manitoba will see lows between (-2 to 5C). Areas that will probably be below zero will be along and south of the Manitoba lakes and along highway 1. Winnipeg: Clear increasing clouds by morning then cloudy, low zero. Brandon: Clear then partlycloudy, becoming cloudy by morning low 0C, Dauphin: Cloudy, low 1C.

Second half of the week: Above normal temperatures continue , before a possible storm could come in by the weekend.  Long range models are hinting at a low pressure system bringing in the threat for a snow storm/winter storm impacting a large portion of the southeastern Canadian prairie provinces. The data is still quite off with some models moving the storm into SW MB as far North as Thompson and Churchill with amounts over 100cm, while others are hinting at it impacting far southwest Manitoba into the central portions of the province with less snowfall . None are showing it for the southern half so far . We will update you .

Cool, unsettled Weekend Ahead.

Southern and central regions of Manitoba can expect a cooler than average weekend alongside unsettled weather and strong winds. The good news is that it will be short lived, find out more below. 

Friday Night: A occluded front will be moving into the region overnight into Saturday, bringing in increasing cloud cover, with cloudy skies. There will likely also be a chance for rain, in areas of central regions by the interlakes. Once the front goes by in the morning, winds will shift to the NW. Of note will be the chance for wind gusts over 60km/h along the Manitoba lakes. Overnight low temperatures will not drop much, in fact they will likely rise before dropping towards the day time. A majority of the region should see overnight lows in the mid single digits (3-5C) with temperatures below zero in the parklands region. Winnipeg: Cloudy, 60% chance of showers overnight, low plus 4C. Brandon: Cloudy, 60% chance of showers Low plus 2C. 

Saturday: A cold front will be moving through southern Manitoba, behind it mainly cloudy skies are expected with a chance for snow for the majority of the region however rain is expected in SE areas of Manitoba before switching over to snow. I’m not expecting it to accumulate much. Only about 2-5cm are expected. Also it will be a extremely windy, winds will be gusting out of the NW at 60km/h with gusts possibly up to 100km/h. Power outages are possible especially in rural regions of the province ,infrastructure especially older power lines with the high wind may result in power outages. Winnipeg has some older power grids which may contribute to possible outages within the city . Have a flashlight handy and canned food at the ready in case of a outage, with a emergency kit. High temperatures during the day time will also plummet, to the low to mid single digits (-1 to -4C), windchills will also drop into the low minus teens (-10 to -14C). Ouch!! Forecast: Winnipeg: Cloudy, snow mixed with rain beginning in the morning changing to snow in the afternoon. Winds 60km/h, gusting to 90 or 100km/h. High 1C falling to -3C in the afternoon. Windchill -12C. Brandon: Cloudy, 40% chance of light snow in the afternoon. Winds 60km/h gusting to 90 or 100km/h. High 0C temperature falling to -3C in the afternoon, windchill -12C.

Saturday Night: Overnight into Sunday , A attic airmass will swing into the region slightly modified making temperatures warmer than it would be in the middle of winter. Clear skies are expected with some cloudcover rolling into the region overnight into the morning hours. Winds will also quiet down shortly after midnight . Low temperatures will drop into the mid to high minus single digits (-5C to -10C). Windchills will drop into the mid minus teens, (-10 to -15C) some areas might see windchills as cold as -18C. Winnipeg: Clear, low -6C, windchill -16C. Brandon: Clear, becoming cloudy in the morning low -5C windchill -14C. 

Sunday: Transition into warmer weather! A warm front will push into the region, bringing a shift to southerly winds towards the evening. Cloudy to partly cloudy skies can be expected in the SE with sunshine in the southwest. This is good news as this will start melting some of the snow on the ground , and will bring back those much needed warmer temperatures. Fake spring ,on the way ??? High temperatures are expected to soar into the low part of the single digits (0 to 5C) in the southeast, and then just west of the red River valley the daytime temperatures into the SW in the mid to high single digits (5 to 8C). Winnipeg: Mainly cloudy, becoming partly cloudy in the evening high plus 3C. Brandon: Partly Cloudy, high 5C. 

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy skies are expected with temperatures dropping below zero, overnight lows will be slightly milder then Saturday night. I’m expecting temperatures to drop to the low minus single digits or slightly above zero (0 to -3C) for the night. Winnipeg: Partly Cloudy low -2C, Brandon: Partly cloudy low -1C.  

The week ahead: A pacific flow will take over the pattern over the week, I’m not sure exactly how warm it will get however models have been consistent with temperatures warming into the mid teens, possibly near 20C. I’ll have a update on Monday!

Gradual warmup for Southern Manitoba

 Southern Manitoba will continue to be under the influence of a cool NW flow before a more westerly flow takes place in the latter first half of the week, which will allow for a warmer temperature pattern to take hold. Some unsettled weather is also possible during this transition. Read on to find out how this will affect our weather. (Below a snapshot of the snow expected on Tuesday, freezing rain possible in the southwest during the afternoon). 

Monday: Will be a cool day a northwesterly flow will be in place. The majority of the region on the day Monday will see sunny to partly cloudy skies, with more cloud in the evening. A few areas will see flurries especially in areas just south of the Manitoba lakes. For the day expect high temperatures to reach the low minus single digits (-1 to -5C). Areas in the interlakes will see temperatures slightly above zero. Winnipeg: Partly cloudy, high -1C. Brandon: Partly Cloudy high -2C. 

Monday Night: A trough of low pressure will move through southern regions of the province overnight bringing increasing cloudcover into Tuesday morning,  behind it a large area of cloud cover will move in ahead of a approaching warm front as noted by the Weather prediction centre frontal map from the NWS. As a result of the clear skies overnight temperatures will drop into the mid to high minus single digits (-5 to -9C). Winnipeg: Partly cloudy becoming cloudy by morning, low -6C. Brandon: Clear, becoming cloudy by morning low -9C.

Tuesday: A warm Front will move through southern Manitoba during the day on Tuesday also an area of snow will be accompanied by it in the late afternoon and evening hours. Also will be a risk of freezing rain and mixed precipitation in extreme south western Manitoba during the mid afternoon hours. There is a possibility for some blowing snow to occur in areas of southern regions of the province while snowfalls I’m not expecting much accumulations, generally 5 to 10 cm can be expected for majority of the region. The temperatures for the early day on Tuesday will be in the low minus single digits (0 to -5C) a few areas may gets closer to 0°C depending on how strong the northwest wind is. Once the Snow clears temperatures will warm towards the latter half of the day where temperatures will be in the mid single digits for daytime max temperatures. Winnipeg: Expect snow amounting to 5cm and a temperature of -1°C warming to 2° by evening. Brandon: Expect cloudy skies, snow amounting to 1-5cm, temperature of -1 warming to 3C by evening. 

Tuesday Night: Snow should clear the province by evening to midnight hours, expect cloudy skies with a chance for off and on flurries throughout the overnight. Overnight lows for southern Manitoba will drop into the single digits (0 to 5C). Winnipeg: Cloudy low +1C, Brandon: Cloudy +1C. 

Wednesday: Will be one of the warmer days of the week with cloudy skies and high temperatures in the low to mid single digits (0 to 7C) with some areas in the Red River Valley seeing the warmest temperatures. Winnipeg: Cloudy, high 5C. Brandon: Cloudy high plus 3C. 

Second Half of the week: Pleasant conditions are expected for the second half of the week, with temperatures continuing in the mid single digits (0 to 8C) as warm pacific air filters in from the west. 

Cold and snowy rest of the week ahead!!

 Southern Manitoba has entered a cooler than average weather pattern for the foreseeable future . There will also be chances for snow as several areas of low pressure move through the northern plains. Let’s have a look at the weather over the next few days . 

Tuesday: Will start off cloudy and cooler than normal in the Southwest, should be fairly sunny in the southeast before clouds move into the region by noon.  Snow will move into southern regions of the province and inundate the Southwest region by early afternoon. Accumulations will only reach the 2-5cm mark. Temperatures will only manage to reach the mid minus single digits in the Southwest (-5 to -2C), and the low single digits in the southeast (0-5C). A high of 3C can be expected for Winnipeg with snow expected, for Brandon a high of -2C can be expected with snow expected as well. 

Tuesday Night: Snow will taper off around or shortly after midnight, flurries will continue into the early morning. Cloudy skies are expected with a northwest wind, overnight lows for a majority of the southern half of Manitoba will drop into the mid minus single digits (-3 to -8C). For Winnipeg cloudy skies are expected with a low of -4C with snow tapering to flurries. Brandon: Cloudy with a Chance of flurries with a low of -5C.

Wednesday: Will be one of the nicer and calmer days of the week, a northwesterly flow aloft may allow for some flurries to form off of the lakes. Other than that cloudy skies are expected with overall temperatures remaining well below normal in the mid single digits, (0 to 5C). Brandon: Cloudy skies are expected with a high temperature of 2C, Winnipeg: Cloudy skies are also expected with a high temperature, of 4C. 

Wednesday Night: A low pressure system will be sliding to the south of the USA border, with snow expected in North Dakota the system looks like it’ll be slamming into a drier airmass north of the border. Which will result in Manitoba missing the bulk of the snowfall, as a result expect mostly cloudy skies for the night. Low temperatures will drop into the the mid minus single digits (-1 to -6C), some areas might stay near the zero degree mark . For Winnipeg: Mainly cloudy skies are expected, with a low of -2C and Brandon cloudy skies with a low of -4C. 

Second half of the week: Brings more cloudy conditions, temperatures will only be in the low minus single digits (-1 to -5C), with overnight lows in the high minus single digits (-5 to -10C). A few chances for flurries are also possible. Stay warm
