Winter Storm and Real Winter Like Temperatures on the way!

As we have experienced warmer than average weather over the past couple of days ,, we will be expecting a transition into some fairly unsettled weather as we head into the work week. A Colorado low pressure system looks to impact the northern plains. with the potential for the seasons first significant snowfall. Read on to find out more.

00Z Model data above, 12 Z Model data below this ... My forecast was based on the 00z model run . Just goes to show the vast difference in model output.

Monday: During the day Monday , a warm front and stationary front will sit over western sections into the interlake part of Manitoba. Along this front light snow will likely occur during the morning hours in southwestern Manitoba tapering to flurries in the afternoon. Cloudy skies are expected in the morning , with partly cloudy to mostly cloudy conditions expected by the afternoon hours. Temperatures ahead on Monday are expected to be in the low to mid single digits in the SW (-1 to -6C) to the mid to high minus single digits in the south central and the southeast (-5 to -10C). Winnipeg: Cloudy then partly cloudy, 30% chance of flurries in the morning. High -8C. Brandon: Light snow in the morning then partly. High -5C.

Monday Night: An approaching low pressure system will move into areas of southern Saskatchewan and Montana on Monday night, which will push in more unsettled or I say perfect weather for Christmas coming up. As it approaches our area , increasing cloud is expected along with some possible patchy fog for much of the region. Temperatures will stay pretty stationary overnight, only rising a degree or two, mainly only looking at lows in the mid to high minus single digits (- 3 to -10). Winnipeg: Cloudy, low -5C. Brandon: Cloudy, low -6C.

Tuesday: The area of low pressure that I mentioned above will be moving into the region during the morning hours. The centre of the low should remain in North Dakota however as we will be on the northern side, an area of heavy snow will traverse Across much of southern Manitoba including the Interlake portions of the province. There is a chance for some mixing especially in areas along the international border with a slight risk of freezing rain. Snow will fall for majority of the day with periods of heavier snow occurring often on at different intervals. It appears the heaviest snow will fall in a swath from Brandon into the interlakes, Winnipeg and Nopiming provincial park where 15 to 40cm of snow is possible. The area that could see the possibility of more than 30cm of snow is in the interlakes and Bissett regions. (See photo above). Areas surrounding the heaviest snow will receive upwards of 5 to 15cm of snow that includes southwestern Manitoba, parkland. and Southeastern Manitoba. Justin will give you guys updates on the data for areas of heaviest possible snowfall as model information comes in. Notes expect blowing snow with reduced Visibility as low as 1km to 0.5km in the heaviest snow. Temperatures will remain on the mild side as the storm impacts the region areas in Southeastern Manitoba will be in the low minus single digits (-2 to -5C) whereas areas in south western Manitoba the parklands and interlakes will experience temperatures in the mid minus single digits to high minus single digits (-6 to -10C). Winnipeg: Snow beginning In the morning, Snowfall at times heavy with blowing snow and near zero visibility at times. Amount 20-30cm. High -3C. Brandon: Snow beginning in the morning, snow and blowing snow with near zero visibility at times. Snowfall amount: 15-20cm. High -7C. Note: keep in mind these are initial forecast amounts for snowfall we will update you as the latest model data comes in there is a chance that these numbers could change before the day Tuesday.

Tuesday Night: An arctic cold front will drop south into Minnesota and North Dakota, behind it will put an end to the above normal temperature pattern. Cloudy skies are expected overnight for a large part except SW MB in the early morning. Winds will also be out of the north west. Even with the cloudy conditions we will still see Overnight lows plummeting into the mid to high minus double digit temperature range, with a swath of -20°C temperatures occurring in the inter lake portions into central portion of Manitoba. Wind chills overnight will drop into the high minus twenty degree range into the mid to high -30°C range overall (-25 to -36C) windchills are possible. A rare exception I will note that northern Manitoba will see windchills in the low -40s. What is weird about this set up is that our overnight low temperatures wont be reached least until 9 AM instead of 6 AM. Winnipeg: Snow ending in the evening then cloudy, clear shortly after sunrise. Low -22C. Windchill -36C. Brandon: Snow ending in the early evening then cloudy clearing towards sunrise, low -20C. Windchill -30.

Wednesday: As usual in this kind of cold pattern a large area of high-pressure will be sitting over the northern section of Manitoba, ahead of it a strong Northwesterly flow will be in place. Sunny skies should finally be in place , we have had a unusually long period of cloudy days. The only negative about this is it will be a cold day!! Temperatures will only sit in the mid to low minus teens (14 to -20C) for daytime highs. Windchills will be closer to -20 to -25C. Winnipeg: Sunny high temperature -17°C, wind chill -21°C. Brandon: sunny high temperature -14°C. Windchill -20°C.

Second half of the week: It appears the below normal facilitation pattern will continue into the weekends it’s hard to find out at the moment how cold it will get indications are our daytime high temperatures will be in the mid minus double digits or slightly colder. With overnight lows in the -20°C range and windchills into the -30C range.

I will have a post ready for Wednesday, however for Friday through Wednesday next week I will not be doing any posts as the holiday season is here!

Warmer than average temperature trend continues.

Southern Manitoba will be under the influence of multiple low pressure systems over the weekend , on the northern edge of a ridge in the southern United States. As well this will be the main weather pattern over the coming days, temperatures will continue on the above normal trend.

(Above: A small Alberta clipper will move through the region on Sunday, giving about 1 to 5 or more cm of snow). A area of low pressure , will move into southern Manitoba during Saturday along with a warm front draped over areas of central and southern regions of the province. Cloudy skies are expected for the afternoon on Saturday, along with some sunny skies are possible in the southeastern sections of the province. Whereas by the parklands, there high temperatures for the region will be in the low to mid minus single digits between -1 and -8C. Winnipeg: Mostly cloudy, high -6C. Brandon: Mostly cloudy, High -3C.

Saturday Night: An arctic cold front will move south into northern North Dakota, behind it an area of high pressure will move into the regions of central Manitoba. Clear skies are expected. Along with it temperatures will drop drastically, there’s a good chance of seeing overnight lows in the low minus single digits to mid minus teens in the interlake regions with windchills in the minus 20’s (-7C to -15C.) Winnipeg: Clear, low temperature -8C, windchill minus 13C. Brandon: Clear, low temperature -3C windchill -9C.

Sunday: Another area of low pressure will slide along the international border into southern sections of Manitoba. Snow will begin on Sunday evening in the southwest section of Manitoba, moving east throughout the evening and overnight hours. Accumulations won’t go up much. On average once 1-7 cm of snow is expected, some areas in the Red River Valley and inter lakes could see up to 10cm. Temperatures will rise into the mid to low minus single digits (-1 to -5C). Snow will continue into the overnight period. Clearing skies are expected with temperatures dropping into the mid to low minus single digits (-5 to -10C). Winnipeg: Snow and blowing snow amount 5 to 10cm. Cloudy overnight. High -3C, low -9C. Brandon: Snow, and blowing snow amount 5cm. High 0C, cloudy overnight low -3C.

First half of the week: Interesting week ahead, it appears the warmer than average temperature trend will continue at least into Wednesday, with warm temperatures in the low to mid minus single digits. Looking into the model data there is a chance for a winter storm sometime late Monday or early Tuesday. We at Manitoba weather centre will keep you updated on this unfolding situation.

Another Holiday Treat of Winter Warmth On the Way.

Southern Manitoba will begin to transition into warmer than average weather over the next couple of days as a slight ridge builds over the northern plains with a westerly flow aloft , we will be on the northern edge of a ridge. This ridge will not be a typical pattern that we see in the summer more of the warm will be confined to the southern states. Several areas of low pressure will sit over the southern portion of the province over the coming days, on the northern edge of the ridge bringing with it chances for snow to end the week.

Wednesday: Partly cloudy today mostly cloudy skies are expected in the region, with some exceptions in Interlake regions where clear skies may occur in the afternoon hours. A area of low pressure will start building north into central regions of Manitoba and sections of northwestern Ontario, trailing cold fronts will sit over central regions Manitoba including the inter lake regions. A band of snow will develop in South Eastern sections of Manitoba which will only last through the early afternoon to late afternoon hours before it moves into Ontario. There will be a chance for flurries in the afternoon and evening elsewhere in the southern sections of Manitoba except for the inter lakes. As as for our daytime high temperatures temperatures are in the mid to high minus single digits (-5 to -9C) with the exception of the Manitoba lakes getting into the -10°C mark. Winnipeg: Cloudy, chance of flurries, high -3°C. Brandon: Cloudy, 30% chance of flurries in the afternoon. High -5°C.

Wednesday night: A small weak cold front will be sitting over the south, which will be stationary. Not much in the way of precipitation is expected overnight into Thursday. Mainly cloudy skies are expected through the night. Temperatures will drop into the high minus single digits (-7 to 10C) with a few sections over lake Manitoba and south of the lake itself by the pembina valley seeing temperatures in the low minus double digits (-11 to -14C). Winnipeg: Mainly cloudy: Low -9C. Brandon: Cloudy, low -9C.

Thursday: A warm front and a low pressure system will lift northwards into central regions of Manitoba and will draw in warmer air for the day on Thursday.  This will be followed by cloudy skies a chance for flurries and some small pockets of sunny skies in southern portions of Manitoba by Duck Mountain and possibly the international peace gardens. Temperatures will soar into the low and mid minus single digits (-3 to -8C). Winnipeg: Cloudy, 30% chance of flurries high temperature -4C. Brandon: Cloudy, high -4C.

Thursday Night: Cloudy skies are expected.  A cold front will move through southern sections of Manitoba, overnight into Friday. A large swath of snow will develop along the front indications are that it will either intensify over southern Manitoba by Brandon or , just east of Winnipeg. Regardless snow is expected for the region heading into Friday. Accumulation will vary from 2 to 5cm, with the possibility of near 10cm in heavier bands.  Temperatures will rise overnight instead of drop. They will sit in the low to mid minus single digits (-2 to -6C). Winnipeg: Periods of snow, low temperature -3C. Brandon: Periods of snow. Low temperature minus 3C.

Friday: A shift in the pattern will occur as the cold front that allowed snow to impact the region moves into Ontario. Cloudy skies , along with some residual snow will impact areas of southeastern Manitoba in the late morning and early afternoon hours. Whereas clearing skies and sunny skies will occur in southwestern Manitoba behind the front toward noon, this will move east throughout the day as high pressure settles in. Temperatures will drop during the day from the mid low or mid minus single digits (-2 to -5C) around sunrise to the low to mid minus double digits (-10 to -15C) with the high temperatures being reached around sunrise. Winnipeg: Snow and blowing snow in the morning , partly cloudy in the afternoon. High -3C, temperature falling to -10C in the afternoon then -13C in the evening. Brandon: Flurries in the morning, then sunny. High -2C in the morning, temperature falling to -13C in the afternoon then -15C in the evening.

Friday Night: With the Arctic cold front by Lake Superior in the evening and a attendant high pressure system over central Manitoba , along with clear skies it’s possible we might have some stronger NW winds in place which will aid in dropping temperatures into the mid to high minus double digits (-14 to -19C). Theres a possibly of low minus twenties (-20 to -21C) over lake Winnipeg overnight into Saturday. Cloudy skies will increase towards morning. Winnipeg: Clear then mostly cloudy by morning. Low -16C. Windchill >-16C. Brandon: Clear, then mostly cloudy towards morning. Low temperature -17C, windchill >-17C.

The Weekend: Looks like more seasonal temperatures in the mid minus single digits for daytime highs will return , with the arrival of a westerly flow once again as low pressure systems sit over the province of Manitoba. A few chances for snow look possible with these systems. I’ll definitely keep an eye on this for my Friday forecast. -Mike McGregor

Snow and cool temperatures expected ahead for Tuesday

I have decided to take a week off considering the weather has gone quiet and cooler. I’ll be back on running the blog tomorrow evening. Just a quick update. Tomorrow will be one of the cooler days before a transition to slightly warmer weather occurs, cloudy to partly cloudy skies are expected. As well a narrow band of snow is expected to move into regions of southern Manitoba tomorrow morning, into the evening on Tuesday as a warm front slides along the American border. Snowfall accumulations will not be that much , I’m only expecting 2-3cm for a majority of southern Manitoba. Temperatures for a majority of the region will be in the mid to high minus single digits (-7 to 10C), with regions north of the Trans Canada getting into the low minus double digits (-10 to -14C). Winnipeg: Cloudy, periods of snow. Amount 2cm. High -11C, windchill -17C. Brandon: Cloudy, periods of snow. High -10C, windchill -15C.

Tuesday Night: Mostly Cloudy skies are expected overnight into Wednesday, as a warm front lifts north temperatures will rise. Overnight into Wednesday temperatures will be in the mid minus single digits to low teens (-6 to 10C), with windchill’s in the mid minus double digits (-12 to -15C).

An update will be made for Wednesday and the 2nd half of the week, tomorrow night and posted on Wednesday. -Mike McGregor

Rain, freezing rain and snow begins transition to colder weather.

Southern portions of Manitoba have experienced a warmer than average period Of weather over the past few weeks, that looks to end abruptly as a low pressure system moves through the region over the next several hours.  This will impact our weather tonight into tomorrow, all hazards of  winter weather are expected find out what they are and the timing of precipitation. Also this blog will be a bit shorter compared to other blogs that I’ve done I am only going to be looking at tonight and tomorrow’s weather with a little glance for Friday.

Now-Friday

Southern sections of Manitoba will be on the Northside of a low pressure system, A warm front will be attached to the system which will impact our region and cause some winter weather over the next 24 hours. Precipitation has already started to fill into the regions of southern Manitoba, With rain falling in vast portion of the south. Snow is also falling in sections of Southeastern Manitoba and southwestern Manitoba but a few patches in the northern Interlakes regions.

Timing and Precipitation Type, Location: Wednesday Night. (Photo above is at 12am local time).

The system will begin to intensify over the next 3 to 6 hours, looking at some of the model Dad I recently it looks like the majority of the precipitation will fall as rain or freezing rain between Brandon into the red river valley and a small portion south east of Winnipeg. There is also a chance that some of this precipitation could mix with snow however that does not look likely in the latest model runs.  Freezing rain is more likely in areas of Southeastern Manitoba, as well as sections between Arborg and Gimli. Those interested where the snowfall it looks like there may be some snow mixed with freezing rain in areas of Southeastern Manitoba with just plain snow in regions of southwestern Manitoba between Brandon into Killarney, and pilot mound. The large amount of moisture and precipitation will exit southern regions, Shortly before dawn or after sunrise. As it moves into Minnesota and Ontario will be a chance for some rain mixed with snow in Winkler regions as well as sign back in to Sprague and Piney regions.

Accumulations:

If this changes on future model runs I will let you guys know. Snow:As far as precipitation accumulation goes, areas of south western Manitoba including Brandon into Killarney can expect 1 to 3 cm. Snowfall accumulations in south eastern Manitoba will be between 1-5cm. Freezing Rain and mixed precipitation. : For sections of Southeastern Manitoba and patches in Interlakes region can expect a trace to 2 mm of freezing rain, there is also a risk for freezing rain in the accumulation of 1 mm in red River Valley and areas that will see rainfall. Rain: large portion from the red river valley into Southwestern Manitoba we’ll see between 1 to 8 mm of rain that is quite concerning as temperatures will likely drop below zero by the morning. The largest accumulations of will occur south of Winnipeg along highway 1 into the white shell.

Temperatures: will drop between zero and -3°C by sunrise they will also gradually drop throughout the rest of the day. For the most part overnights sections of the Red River Valley and Southwestern Manitoba will remaining above zero (1 to 2C) overnight into Thursday. However the temperature will drop towards sunrise their actual overnight low temperatures dropping between -1 and -4°C around 6am. This is a concern for a large portion of the region which well experience rain and freezing rain throughout the overnight. This will potentially cause accidents and travel difficulties because of the ice buildup from the rainfall of forecasted 1 to 8mm which will freeze possibly overnight into the morning hours.  You have your salt and ice melter.

Forecast: Winnipeg: Mainly Rain or snow mixed with freezing rain at times, late this evening and after midnight. Rain ending before morning then snow. Rainfall accumulation, 3-5mm. Snowfall amounts Trace to 1cm. Low +3C falling to -2 by 6 a.m.

Brandon:  Periods of Rain or snow, risk of freezing rain 30% chance. Snowfall amounts: 1 to 3 cm, rainfall amounts trace to 1mm. Low temperature: 3C falling 2 to -4 Celsius by morning.

Thursday and Friday: On Thursday there looks to be a risk for freezing drizzle or freezing rain in the early afternoon hours. Then cloudy skies should be the dominating feature on Thursday and Friday, as well both days look to be cooler than average our temperatures will likely drop into the mid minus single digits (-5 to -9C) for daytime high temperatures and overnight lows in the high minus single digits to low minus teens (-6 to -12C).

Stay safe and stay tuned Manitoba weather centre for updates on this evolving situation.

Falls Last Hurrah, before gradual pattern change .

Southern Manitoba has been in a unusually warm pattern over the past couple weeks, this trend looks to continue as a southerly flow kicks inas a area of high pressure moves off to the east. The warmth will be notable as a attendant warm front sits over parts of Manitoba and Ontario. Read on to find out how this will be the feature of our weather this week.

Monday: Itll be one of those typical fall days, I’m expecting cloudy to partly cloudy skies were majority of southern Manitoba. Areas in the southeast sections will be under cloudy skies They’re also will be a chance for some flurries and mixed precipitation in the southeast during the morning and early afternoon, and the areas south west section of Manitoba will have partly cloudy skies. Temperatures for the day on Monday will be in the low to mid minus single digits in the southeast (-1 to -6C), and in the low single digits in the southwest portion of Manitoba (1 to 3C) as the west winds move in behind the warm front. Winnipeg: Cloudy high temperature 3°C, Brandon: Partly cloudy high temperature 5C.

Monday night: Partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies are expected for the region, Overnight lows for majority of southern Manitoba will be sticking in the mid minus single digits, (-7 to 0°C). The warm front should be in Northwestern Ontario by morning, which will help boost our temperatures. Winnipeg: Cloudy periods, Low -4°C, Brandon: Cloudy, Low -3C.

Tuesday: This will be one of the couple of the last days above zero!!! Partly cloudy skies are expected for the region, some periods of sun may occur. A Majority of southern Manitoba will be seeing temperatures well above zero. Temperatures will range from 1C to 9C. This warmth will stretch all the way up into northern Manitoba where the temperatures will rise into the low single digits zero to 2C. (not in extreme northern regions however). Winnipeg: Cloudy, high temperature 4C, Brandon: Cloudy, high 5C.

Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy to clear skies are expected overnight a westerly wind for temperatures not to drop that much. A Majority of the Interlakes and southern regions of Manitoba will see temperatures in the high minus single digits (-5 to -9C). There will be a likelihood of windchills between (-11 to -13C), especially over lake Winnipeg and south of lake Winnipeg. Winnipeg: Partly Cloudy, low minus 7C windchill -11C. Brandon: Cloudy, low -6C.

Wednesday: A clipper system will approach southwestern Manitoba during the afternoon hours, no precipitation will occur with this however large amount of cloud cover are expected. Once again our daytime high temperatures will soar into the low to mid single-digits in southwest, red river valley, southeast portions. (0 to 7C). The northern inter lakes, Manitoba lakes , and areas east of lake Winnipeg will see below zero temperatures. Winnipeg: Cloudy, high 3°C .Brandon: Cloudy, high plus 4°C.

Second half of the week: A arctic cold front looks too slide south into southern sections of Manitoba which will drop our temperatures slightly below normal. This means instead of seeing temperatures in the plus range we will see temperatures likely slide into the mid minus single-digits for day time high temperatures (-1C to -9C) and high minus single digits or low minus teens for overnight lows (-9 to -15C).

Warm spell to continue

Southern Manitoba over the past 7-10 days or so has had exceptionally warmer than average temperatures, with a majority of day time high temperatures reaching a few degrees above zero and in the low to mid minus single digits for daytime highs. A ridge of high pressure looks to establish itself over the northwestern part of the unites states over the coming days and we will be on the northern end of it. This should have a significant effect on our weather, read on to find out how that will affect us below.

Wednesday: Southern Manitoba will be on The edge of an area of High pressure, as we are on the northern end of it warm air should filter in once again on Wednesday. Some cloud cover from the overnight hours will clear out of the province in the early afternoon hours. Not much in the way of weather is expected, temperatures for parts of southern Manitoba will soar above 0°C and it may be slightly cooler or below zero in the interlakes region. For those wondering I’m expecting temperatures between -3°C in the southeast where the cooler temperatures will be and areas for the rest of the part of the southern half of the province will see temperatures between 3C and -2°C. Winnipeg: Partly cloudy and mostly sunny with a few clouds high temperature +3°C .Brandon: Sunny with a few clouds high temperature +2°C.

Wednesday Night: The mild and calm weather conditions continue , mainly clear skies are expected with a few to scattered clouds around. A westerly flow aloft will continue to provide mild temperatures. A Majority of southern Manitoba will experience temperatures between -6C and -12°C. Areas in southeastern Manitoba will be on the cooler side. Winnipeg: Partly cloudy, low temperature -7°C. Brandon: Mainly clear, low temperature -6°C.

Thursday: Will be one of the warmer days of the latter half of the week. The sun will be out and it will definitely not feel like December in fact we may see a large portion of southern Manitoba, with temperatures above zero (0 to 5C) especially towards the parklands into south western Manitoba. Areas from the red river valley, interlakes and into southeastern portions will be slightly above zero to a degree or 2 below zero (3 to -4C). Winnipeg: Partly cloudy, high temperature +3°C. Brandon: Sunny high temperature +3°C.

Thursday Night: Cloudy skies are expected in increasing amounts for the region, a arctic cold front will drive south throughout the overnight hours. Behind it a weak high pressure system that will move into northern Ontario will allow for cooler air to filter in overnight. Low temperatures for the region will drop into the high minus single digits -5°C to -12°C. Areas in the red river valley may experience cooler temperatures. Winnipeg: Cloudy, low temperature -10°C windchill -14°C. Brandon: Cloudy, low temperature -8°C.

Friday: Cloudy skies and seasonal temperatures are expected on Friday, extreme south western portions of Manitoba may experience temperatures a couple of degrees above zero (0 to 2C). The rest of the region parklands, interlakes , southeast Manitoba during the day will see temperatures a few degrees below zero, (-2 to -5C). Winnipeg: Cloudy, high temperature -3C. Brandon: Partly to mostly cloudy high temperature 0°C.

The weekend: There could be a chance for freezing rain on Saturday in the interlakes and red river valley area, otherwise calm weather is expected. Above average temperatures will continue the majority of our temperatures will be in the mid minus single digits just slightly above zero (4 to -5C) for daytime highs and overnight lows in the low minus single digits to low minus double digits (-5 to -14C).

Cold to start the week with warmer temperatures arriving

Everyone I’m back from a short break a well needed one as I have been working on blog posts for the majority of the summer and fall . Post will be sporadic but they will still be posted in the event that we have any major changes in weather. In regards to this week Southern Manitoba can expect a cooler than average start to the week as a large area of high-pressure will be establishing himself over the Canadian provinces, that will be the weather maker for the week ahead.

Above Tuesday will be the last cooler than average day of the week before it warms up on Wednesday.

Monday: Area of high-pressure will be moving towards the province of Manitoba throughout the day on Monday. The day ahead on Monday will start off mostly cloudy for a majority of regions in the southern half of the province, some partly cloudy skies may be around in the interlakes. Sunshine expected in the afternoon for the majority of the southern half of the province. Northerly winds can be expected throughout the day ahead of the area of high-pressure, temperatures will not budge much for the day I’m only expecting High temperatures to rise into the mid to  high minus single digits, in general anywhere from -6°C to -10°C. Forecast; Winnipeg: Cloudy in the morning then sunny, high -6C. Brandon: Cloudy , then becoming sunny in the afternoon high -3C.

Monday Night: Partly cloudy skies then cloudy skies are expected for the night on Monday, around the morning hours cloudy skies are expected for majority of the region. As cloudy skies are expected to be in place temperatures won’t drop much. Low temperatures in southern Manitoba will drop into the high minus single digits and Low minus double digit temperatures,  especially in areas that are in the red river valley and lakes region. This means that The red river valley will see low temperatures between -10°C and -14°C with the windchill is getting closer to -20°C. Overnight low temperatures for the rest of southern Manitoba will be between -7°C and -10°C. Forecast, Winnipeg: cloudy, low -12°C windchill -18°C. Brandon: cloudy Low-10°C.

Tuesday: As mentioned above the area of high-pressure will be moving through southern Manitoba on Tuesday as it moves through the province Palm conditions are expected with partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies. Majority of the region will see temperatures in the mid single digits with some regions seeing temperatures in the low minus single digits (-1 to -7C). Winnipeg: partly cloudy high -3°C. Brandon: Partly cloudy high temperature -4°C.

Tuesday Night: There will also be cloudy skies on Tuesday night and into Wednesday. Temperatures on Tuesday night will warm as the area of high-pressure moves out to the east this will allow our temperatures to rise gradually overnight. This means that mid minus single digits in the evening will rise to the low minus single digits overnight. This will mean that temperatures will drop between -5°C and -1°C in extreme south western portions of Manitoba. Winnipeg:  cloudy Low -2°C, Brandon: cloudy low -4°C.

Wednesday: Mainly cloudy skies are expected in the morning with Sunny skies for the afternoon with a mix of sun and cloud expected. An approaching low-pressure system will be drawing in a southerly airmass for the day on Wednesday, as a result a majority of southern Manitoba will be experiencing above normal temperatures for the day on Wednesday. Temperatures will be in the range of 4°C to 10°C with the warmer temperatures expected towards the American border. Winnipeg: Sunny and high temperature 8°C, Brandon: sunny high temperature 5°C.

The second half of the week looks to have an area of low pressure move through the province of Manitoba which will drop our temperatures for the latter half of the week, it is really difficult at this point in time to figure out if we will be getting any precipitation as the frontal system goes through we will monitor this for further updates.

Slightly cold weekend followed by a winter storm!!

The province of Manitoba has experienced an exceptionally warmer than average period Of weather over the the past week, however that won’t last much longer as a Colorado low is developing in the states. That is expected to impact Manitoba towards the latter half of the weekend. Read on ,, to find out how that will affect us.

Heat Wave coming to southern Manitoba.

This week will be the beginning of a well above average temperature trend, you can thank that to an area of high pressure and a building ridge over the west coast. Find out how this will impact our weather this week. Read on to find out...

A look at the warmer than average temperatures expected for the day on Tuesday!! Enjoy it well you can .

Monday Night: Will be a calm night, light winds are expected out of the W to SW. Clear skies are expected not really anything huge in terms of weather conditions, overnight low temperatures will drop from slightly below zero into the mid single digits (-1 to 5C). Winnipeg: Clear, low 0C. Brandon: Clear low 0C. Dauphin: Clear to partly cloudy low , 5C.

Tuesday: Will be one of the warmest days of the week, a majority of southern regions of the province can expect a southerly wind along with sunny skies . ushering in temperatures in the mid to high double digits (12-18C). Winnipeg: Sunny high 13C. Brandon: Sunny, high 14C. Dauphin: Sunny high 16C.

Tuesday Night: Clear skies are expected with a majority of the region still remaining under the ridge. Some light cloud will filter into the southwest part of Manitoba into the morning hours. Overnight lows will drop into slightly below (0C to 6C). Winnipeg: Clear, low 1C, Brandon: Clear, then partly cloudy low 0C. Dauphin: Partly cloudy, low 5C.

Wednesday: A small low pressure system will move through during the early morning hours, this will bring in some light cloudcover but the sun should still manage to peak out.  Winds will shift to the NW during the afternoon then to the W, temperatures will soar into the low to mid double digits (10 to 16C). Winnipeg: Partly cloudy, high 12C. Brandon: Sunny, high 14C. Dauphin: Sunny high 10C.

Wednesday Night: A cold front will likely move southeast during the evening hours, behind it increasing amounts of cloud cover will filter in and this is crucial as there will be some prevention of overnight lows dropping well below zero. A large majority of southern Manitoba will see lows between (-2 to 5C). Areas that will probably be below zero will be along and south of the Manitoba lakes and along highway 1. Winnipeg: Clear increasing clouds by morning then cloudy, low zero. Brandon: Clear then partlycloudy, becoming cloudy by morning low 0C, Dauphin: Cloudy, low 1C.

Second half of the week: Above normal temperatures continue , before a possible storm could come in by the weekend.  Long range models are hinting at a low pressure system bringing in the threat for a snow storm/winter storm impacting a large portion of the southeastern Canadian prairie provinces. The data is still quite off with some models moving the storm into SW MB as far North as Thompson and Churchill with amounts over 100cm, while others are hinting at it impacting far southwest Manitoba into the central portions of the province with less snowfall . None are showing it for the southern half so far . We will update you .

Cool, unsettled Weekend Ahead.

Southern and central regions of Manitoba can expect a cooler than average weekend alongside unsettled weather and strong winds. The good news is that it will be short lived, find out more below.

Friday Night: A occluded front will be moving into the region overnight into Saturday, bringing in increasing cloud cover, with cloudy skies. There will likely also be a chance for rain, in areas of central regions by the interlakes. Once the front goes by in the morning, winds will shift to the NW. Of note will be the chance for wind gusts over 60km/h along the Manitoba lakes. Overnight low temperatures will not drop much, in fact they will likely rise before dropping towards the day time. A majority of the region should see overnight lows in the mid single digits (3-5C) with temperatures below zero in the parklands region. Winnipeg: Cloudy, 60% chance of showers overnight, low plus 4C. Brandon: Cloudy, 60% chance of showers Low plus 2C.

Saturday: A cold front will be moving through southern Manitoba, behind it mainly cloudy skies are expected with a chance for snow for the majority of the region however rain is expected in SE areas of Manitoba before switching over to snow. I’m not expecting it to accumulate much. Only about 2-5cm are expected. Also it will be a extremely windy, winds will be gusting out of the NW at 60km/h with gusts possibly up to 100km/h. Power outages are possible especially in rural regions of the province ,infrastructure especially older power lines with the high wind may result in power outages. Winnipeg has some older power grids which may contribute to possible outages within the city . Have a flashlight handy and canned food at the ready in case of a outage, with a emergency kit. High temperatures during the day time will also plummet, to the low to mid single digits (-1 to -4C), windchills will also drop into the low minus teens (-10 to -14C). Ouch!! Forecast: Winnipeg: Cloudy, snow mixed with rain beginning in the morning changing to snow in the afternoon. Winds 60km/h, gusting to 90 or 100km/h. High 1C falling to -3C in the afternoon. Windchill -12C. Brandon: Cloudy, 40% chance of light snow in the afternoon. Winds 60km/h gusting to 90 or 100km/h. High 0C temperature falling to -3C in the afternoon, windchill -12C.

Saturday Night: Overnight into Sunday , A attic airmass will swing into the region slightly modified making temperatures warmer than it would be in the middle of winter. Clear skies are expected with some cloudcover rolling into the region overnight into the morning hours. Winds will also quiet down shortly after midnight . Low temperatures will drop into the mid to high minus single digits (-5C to -10C). Windchills will drop into the mid minus teens, (-10 to -15C) some areas might see windchills as cold as -18C. Winnipeg: Clear, low -6C, windchill -16C. Brandon: Clear, becoming cloudy in the morning low -5C windchill -14C.

Sunday: Transition into warmer weather! A warm front will push into the region, bringing a shift to southerly winds towards the evening. Cloudy to partly cloudy skies can be expected in the SE with sunshine in the southwest. This is good news as this will start melting some of the snow on the ground , and will bring back those much needed warmer temperatures. Fake spring ,on the way ??? High temperatures are expected to soar into the low part of the single digits (0 to 5C) in the southeast, and then just west of the red River valley the daytime temperatures into the SW in the mid to high single digits (5 to 8C). Winnipeg: Mainly cloudy, becoming partly cloudy in the evening high plus 3C. Brandon: Partly Cloudy, high 5C.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy skies are expected with temperatures dropping below zero, overnight lows will be slightly milder then Saturday night. I’m expecting temperatures to drop to the low minus single digits or slightly above zero (0 to -3C) for the night. Winnipeg: Partly Cloudy low -2C, Brandon: Partly cloudy low -1C.

The week ahead: A pacific flow will take over the pattern over the week, I’m not sure exactly how warm it will get however models have been consistent with temperatures warming into the mid teens, possibly near 20C. I’ll have a update on Monday!

Gradual warmup for Southern Manitoba

Southern Manitoba will continue to be under the influence of a cool NW flow before a more westerly flow takes place in the latter first half of the week, which will allow for a warmer temperature pattern to take hold. Some unsettled weather is also possible during this transition. Read on to find out how this will affect our weather. (Below a snapshot of the snow expected on Tuesday, freezing rain possible in the southwest during the afternoon).

Monday: Will be a cool day a northwesterly flow will be in place. The majority of the region on the day Monday will see sunny to partly cloudy skies, with more cloud in the evening. A few areas will see flurries especially in areas just south of the Manitoba lakes. For the day expect high temperatures to reach the low minus single digits (-1 to -5C). Areas in the interlakes will see temperatures slightly above zero. Winnipeg: Partly cloudy, high -1C. Brandon: Partly Cloudy high -2C.

Monday Night: A trough of low pressure will move through southern regions of the province overnight bringing increasing cloudcover into Tuesday morning,  behind it a large area of cloud cover will move in ahead of a approaching warm front as noted by the Weather prediction centre frontal map from the NWS. As a result of the clear skies overnight temperatures will drop into the mid to high minus single digits (-5 to -9C). Winnipeg: Partly cloudy becoming cloudy by morning, low -6C. Brandon: Clear, becoming cloudy by morning low -9C.

Tuesday: A warm Front will move through southern Manitoba during the day on Tuesday also an area of snow will be accompanied by it in the late afternoon and evening hours. Also will be a risk of freezing rain and mixed precipitation in extreme south western Manitoba during the mid afternoon hours. There is a possibility for some blowing snow to occur in areas of southern regions of the province while snowfalls I’m not expecting much accumulations, generally 5 to 10 cm can be expected for majority of the region. The temperatures for the early day on Tuesday will be in the low minus single digits (0 to -5C) a few areas may gets closer to 0°C depending on how strong the northwest wind is. Once the Snow clears temperatures will warm towards the latter half of the day where temperatures will be in the mid single digits for daytime max temperatures. Winnipeg: Expect snow amounting to 5cm and a temperature of -1°C warming to 2° by evening. Brandon: Expect cloudy skies, snow amounting to 1-5cm, temperature of -1 warming to 3C by evening.

Tuesday Night: Snow should clear the province by evening to midnight hours, expect cloudy skies with a chance for off and on flurries throughout the overnight. Overnight lows for southern Manitoba will drop into the single digits (0 to 5C). Winnipeg: Cloudy low +1C, Brandon: Cloudy +1C.

Wednesday: Will be one of the warmer days of the week with cloudy skies and high temperatures in the low to mid single digits (0 to 7C) with some areas in the Red River Valley seeing the warmest temperatures. Winnipeg: Cloudy, high 5C. Brandon: Cloudy high plus 3C.

Second Half of the week: Pleasant conditions are expected for the second half of the week, with temperatures continuing in the mid single digits (0 to 8C) as warm pacific air filters in from the west.

Cold and snowy rest of the week ahead!!

Southern Manitoba has entered a cooler than average weather pattern for the foreseeable future . There will also be chances for snow as several areas of low pressure move through the northern plains. Let’s have a look at the weather over the next few days .

Tuesday: Will start off cloudy and cooler than normal in the Southwest, should be fairly sunny in the southeast before clouds move into the region by noon.  Snow will move into southern regions of the province and inundate the Southwest region by early afternoon. Accumulations will only reach the 2-5cm mark. Temperatures will only manage to reach the mid minus single digits in the Southwest (-5 to -2C), and the low single digits in the southeast (0-5C). A high of 3C can be expected for Winnipeg with snow expected, for Brandon a high of -2C can be expected with snow expected as well.

Tuesday Night: Snow will taper off around or shortly after midnight, flurries will continue into the early morning. Cloudy skies are expected with a northwest wind, overnight lows for a majority of the southern half of Manitoba will drop into the mid minus single digits (-3 to -8C). For Winnipeg cloudy skies are expected with a low of -4C with snow tapering to flurries. Brandon: Cloudy with a Chance of flurries with a low of -5C.

Wednesday: Will be one of the nicer and calmer days of the week, a northwesterly flow aloft may allow for some flurries to form off of the lakes. Other than that cloudy skies are expected with overall temperatures remaining well below normal in the mid single digits, (0 to 5C). Brandon: Cloudy skies are expected with a high temperature of 2C, Winnipeg: Cloudy skies are also expected with a high temperature, of 4C.

Wednesday Night: A low pressure system will be sliding to the south of the USA border, with snow expected in North Dakota the system looks like it’ll be slamming into a drier airmass north of the border. Which will result in Manitoba missing the bulk of the snowfall, as a result expect mostly cloudy skies for the night. Low temperatures will drop into the the mid minus single digits (-1 to -6C), some areas might stay near the zero degree mark . For Winnipeg: Mainly cloudy skies are expected, with a low of -2C and Brandon cloudy skies with a low of -4C.

Second half of the week: Brings more cloudy conditions, temperatures will only be in the low minus single digits (-1 to -5C), with overnight lows in the high minus single digits (-5 to -10C). A few chances for flurries are also possible. Stay warm

Mild weather continues, with a chance for thunderstorms on Sunday +Thanksgiving forecast 🦃🦃🦃🦃

Southern regions of Manitoba can expect a pleasent weekend as a southerly flow takes over behind a area of high pressure and a low pressure system.

Saturday: Beautiful weather is expected and I’m not expecting much in the way of significant weather either, the only caveat to this is that the ridge which brought the warm weather on Friday will be in Ontario. So a bit of a northwesterly flow aloft will prevent temperatures from warming significantly.  Regardless sunny skies along with a mix of sun and cloud can be expected in the south. High temperatures are expected to be in the high single digits (7-10C) in the southeast to the mid teens (10-15C) in the southwest. Winnipeg: A mix of sun and cloud, high 13C. Brandon: Sunny, high 14C. Dauphin: Sunny, high 12C.

Saturday Night: A occluded front will move toward the Manitoba border overnight into Sunday morning, ahead of it partly cloudy skies are expected overnight into Sunday. One thing to note: if the system travel speed slows down which would make this system come in later, clearer skies would be expected overnight. In general overnight low temperatures will drop into the high single digits (5 to 10C), with some areas by the escarpment  dropping into the mid single digits (4 to 7C). Winnipeg: Clear, low 9C. Brandon: Partly Cloudy, low 8C. Dauphin: Clear, low 8C.

Sunday: Things get a tiny little more complicated, model data is suggesting a frontal system moving through Manitoba during the early day time and indications are that it will bring a wide swath of showers along with it. Alongside the potential for showers and thunderstorms in the southeast , some of them may become severe. I know it’s weird and we’re in the middle of October a season that should be transitioning into winter, but we’re seeing a thunderstorm threat instead. That’s 2020 for you! One thing that we will have to confirm future model data, because if this changes there will be a potential for the thunderstorm threat to move into North Dakota and portions of southern Manitoba, particularly the red river valley. I doubt that the Southwest will get any convection as models are consistent with the southeast. As a result I’m expecting a general threat for showers and thunderstorms, with a very slight risk of severe thunderstorms. The threat will be more so south of the border. High temperatures for the day on Sunday will be above normal , with a majority of the region seeing temperatures in the mid to high teens (14-17C). Areas in the southeast will only manage to reach the low teens (10-12C) mark. Winnipeg: Partly Cloudy to mostly cloudy. Showers, or thunderstorms in the late afternoon, some thunderstorms may be severe. High 15C. Brandon: Mostly Cloudy, 60% chance of showers risk of a thunderstorm . High 15C. Dauphin: Partly cloudy, 60% chance of showers, High 17C.

Sunday Night: A majority of the showers and thunderstorms will exit the province by mid to late evening. Lingering cloudcover along with a west wind and clearing skies, will make things a lot cooler than the day on Sunday. Temperatures will drop into the low to mid single digits (4-9C) the cooler areas will likely be in areas north of Dauphin and around the escarpment regions. Winnipeg: Cloudy low 8C. Brandon: Cloudy, low 6C. Dauphin: Cloudy, low 5C.

Monday: The weather is expected to be pleasant for thanksgiving, some sunny to mostly cloudy skies are expected for the majority of our region. It will also transition period into cooler weather is expected for thanksgiving, with temperatures not budging warmer than (6-10C) north of the transcanada and northeast of Winnipeg where more cloud is expected. Whereas areas where the sun will be out in the south, high temperatures will soar into the low to mid teens (10-14C). Winnipeg: Sunny to partly cloudy high 11C, Brandon: Sunny high 11C. Dauphin: Sunny high 10C.

Monday Night: Cold and clear conditions will filter in overnight as a trough of pressure moves through , cold north winds will assist in making it a unpleasantly cold night. Low temperatures will drop into the low to mid single digits, for the majority of the south . Winnipeg: Clear, low 3C. Brandon: Clear low 1C, Dauphin: Clear, low 4C.

The rest of the week: Looks like the pattern will support fairly pleasant conditions are expected. There may be chances at showers or snow through the week.  the arrival of cooler than average day time highs in the high single digits, lows in the low single digits to below zero.

Warm weather with a chance for unsettled weather

Southern Manitoba will be experiencing a warmer than average week this week,  as a ridge of high-pressure starts building over the American Midwest and portions of the American plains. A few areas of low pressure will also go through the province of Manitoba bringing the chance for unsettled weather. Read on to find out how our weather be for this week ahead !

Showers and thunderstorms possible on Tuesday afternoon and evening.

Monday Night: A area of low pressure will be moving into the southern and central portions of Manitoba, should be in the Red River Valley by morning . As a result increasing amounts of cloud cover is expected overnight into the morning hours. There will be a chance for showers from 12am-8am in southern regions of Manitoba. Overnight lows are expected to drop in the mid single digits to low teens (7-10C) for a majority of the southern half of the region, areas that will drop below 10C look to be in the western portions of Manitoba and the southeast. Winnipeg: Clear then increasing clouds with, cloudy skies overnight. 30% Chance of showers. Low 10C. Brandon: Increasing clouds then Cloudy, 60% chance of showers after midnight. Low 8C.

Tuesday: Any showers from the morning hours will clear and leave behind sunny skies. It’ll also be more of the unsettled days, of the week. An area of low pressure will move into Ontario during the day behind it a WNW flow will take over , behind it allowing for showers and isolated thunderstorms to form along the boundary between cold air to the north and warm air to the south. Any storms that form will be non severe and will only produce small hail and brief periods of heavy rain . The best chance for thunderstorms appear to be in the inter lakes, Red River valley and eastern portion of Manitoba. I’m not expecting much in the way of accumulations. High temperatures for a majority of the region will reach the mid to high teens (13-19C). Winnipeg: Partly cloudy, 60% chance of showers , risk of thunderstorms in the afternoon and early evening. High 18C. Brandon: Partly cloudy: 30% chance of showers in the afternoon with risk of thunderstorms. High 17C.

Tuesday Night: Expect clear skies and calm conditions for a majority of the south, cloudy skies are expected from the interlakes into southeastern Manitoba. It’ll also be one of the cooler nights of the week with overnight lows dropping into the low to mid single digits mark (4-7C), areas in the southeast into the inter lakes part of Manitoba will be lucky enough to stay in the high single digits around (7-10C.) Winnipeg: Clear, scattered clouds low 5C. Brandon: Clear Low 4C.

Wednesday: Will be a pleasant and sunny day, a large dome of high pressure will be centred over the northern plains with the northern periphery extending over southern portions of Manitoba. Temperatures will soar into the mid to high teens with some locations surpassing the 20C mark. Winds will be light out of the NW and W through the day. Winnipeg: Sunny, high 18C. Brandon: Sunny, high 16C.

Wednesday night: Will bring a increasing amount of cloud cover with partly cloudy skies in the southwest ahead of a warm front in Saskatchewan, mostly clear skies are expected in the southeast. There will be light winds out of the south overnight as well. Overnight lows are expected to drop into the mid single digits (3 to 5C) , with some regions in the Nopiming park area dropping into the zero to slightly below freezing mark. Winnipeg : Clear, low 5C. Brandon: Partly cloudy, low 5C.

Second half of the week: Brings partly cloudy to sunny skies and warm temperatures in the mid to high teens , with overnight lows in the mid single digits. I’ll have another blog for Thursday or Friday!

Unsettled weather pulling in cooler than average temperatures to end the week.

Southern Manitoba will be entering a cooler than average temperature pattern over the coming days, as a northwesterly flow takes over the region . This pattern will be the dominant feature into the weekend. Fall is here .

There will be a Chance of showers and weak thunderstorms ahead for Wednesday, as winds stream out of the NW along a cold front swinging south. No severe weather is expected , but this will bring a well needed rain for areas in desperate need of moisture.

Wednesday: A cold front will be moving south gradually through the day, bringing in a increasing amount of cloud cover. Along with partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies.  There will also be a chance for showers or thunderstorms, with about CAPE of 500-800J/Kg. The greatest chance of showers and thunderstorms, will be in Central regions through the inter lakes into southeastern Manitoba with more rainfall occurring there as the front is centered over that region northwest into the inter lakes and central Manitoba . Temperatures for the day are expected to be in the low teens (10-15C), with areas near the American border in the mid teens. Winnipeg: Mostly to partly Cloudy, 60% chance of showers, and risk of thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. High 14C. Brandon: Partly Cloudy, 60 % chance of showers. High 11C.

Wednesday Night: The cold front will continue to slide south as it moves into North Dakota, a chance for lake effect showers will continue into the overnight hours for a majority of southern Manitoba. Especially out by the lakes region. Partly cloudy to cloudy skies are expected overnight into the morning with overnight lows  in the low single digits (0 to 5C) with a few areas a couple of degrees warmer. Winnipeg: Partly cloudy 30% chance of showers, low 3C. Brandon: Partly cloudy Low 3C.

Thursday: Will be the transition into quieter days for the rest of the week, thanks to a area of high pressure that will be moving into Manitoba. Cloudy skies are expected for the day Thursday, this will not help in terms of temperature improvement from Wednesday night. Frustratingly enough it will only warm up into the mid to high single digits (5 to 10C), if some sun can peak through the thick cloud cover it’s entirely possible high temperatures will warm into the low teens (10 to 12C). That’s a part of changing seasons in Manitoba for you. Winnipeg: Mostly cloudy High: 7C. Brandon: Mostly cloudy,  High: 9C.

Thursday Night: Will be another cold night over regions of southern Manitoba, no precipitation or rain is expected. The good news however is that cloud cover that will be in place on Thursday night will act as a blanket keeping the warm temperatures at ground level in. Overnight lows on Thursday night will drop into the low to mid single digits (0 to 5C) with some areas in the inter lakes, dropping close to or slightly below zero. If skies were to clear temperatures could possibly drop below freezing , that doesn’t look as likely. Winnipeg: cloudy low 2C, Brandon: Overcast low 4C.

Friday: Expect another cloudy day with northerly winds , will feel a lot like fall. There may be some peaks of sun here and there. High temperatures on the day Friday will only manage to reach the high single digits (5 to 10C). Areas in extreme southwest Manitoba may see temperatures between 10 and 12C. Winnipeg: Mostly cloudy high 8C, Brandon: Mostly cloudy high 8C.

Friday Night: Will have clear skies and winds light out of the north, it will also be one of the coldest nights of the week temperatures will drop to near the freezing mark and will sit in the low single digits (0 to 5C) for much of the southern regions. However for sections of the parklands into the inter lakes and shores of lake Winnipeg , and lake Manitoba there is a likelihood of temperatures dropping below the freezing mark. (-5C to 0C). As a result of the below freezing temperatures overnight a risk of Jack “frost” is possible in those regions. Winnipeg: Mainly clear low 2C, Brandon Low -1C, risk of Jack “Frost”.

The weekend: Looks like there will be pleasant conditions heading into the weekend .with a return to seasonal temperatures. It also looks like we may see a possibility of near 20C temperatures once again ! Fall isn’t leaving any time soon!

Seasonable condition with a chance of showers and thunderstorms

Southern regions of Manitoba will be getting into a unseasonably cool pattern as we head into the end of the weekend.

(Above: Showers and thunderstorms look to affect southern Manitoba late on Saturday afternoon and evening, there is a chance for some to become severe. However that risk is only a 20% chance).

Saturday: will start off partly to mostly cloudy, with sunny skies by afternoon ,along with a southerly wind. However increasing amounts of instability is expected ahead of an area of low pressure that will move into the southwest part of Manitoba, as a result there is a possible of scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening hours. There is a possibility some of the storms might get close to severe limits. If they do expect penny size hail and strong wind gusts. Heavy rainfall is possible as well, however I’m leaning more towards non severe storms . As for high temperatures a majority of the region will see highs in the high teens to low 20’s (17-24C), the warmer weather will be in the southeast areas by the lakes will see the cooler temperatures. Brandon: 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms, High 21C. Winnipeg: 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms High 24C.

Saturday Night: The backside of the low will move into southern Manitoba bringing with it a chance for showers , and mainly cloudy skies . Winds will also shift out of the west. Overnight lows will drop into the high single digits to low teens (7-14C). Brandon: Cloudy , 40% chance of showers low 12C. Winnipeg: Cloudy, low 12C.

Sunday : I’m expecting mainly cloudy skies  to dominate the day for Sunday. Expect winds to shift to the NW as the area of low pressure moves east into Ontario. The good news is that there won’t be any more rain as the low moves east, the only thing is that temperatures will not warm much due to higher amounts of cloud cover. So high temperatures on Sunday will hit the high teens then drop into the mid teens by  afternoon as a cold front drops south. Winnipeg: Cloudy high 16C dropping to 14C by evening. Brandon: Cloudy , high 14C dropping to 12C by evening.

Sunday Night: There will be a chance for showers off the lakes as cold air moves in from the north. Brandon: Cloudy low 3C. Winnipeg: Cloudy low 7C.

The beginning of the week: Brings a chance for showers on Monday and sunny skies the rest of the first half of the week , high temperatures in the low to mid teens with overnight lows in the single digits.

Unseasonably Cool Weather with frost likely.

A cool and unseasonably below temperature pattern is expected to impact a large majority of southern Manitoba, over the coming days as a large area of high pressure sinks south into the region . Read on to find out how cold it will get.

Large area of high pressure will impact southern Manitoba over the coming days. Bringing in the likelihood of frost and cooler than average temperatures before it slides east on Friday evening.

Wednesday Night: A large area of temperatures in the mid to low single digits are expected tonight as area of high pressure builds into the region . This will give a major risk for frost, overnight. Expect partly cloudy to clear skies and some clouds to travel south from the parklands into the morning hours . Winnipeg: Clear skies frost likely, low 3C. Brandon: Partly cloudy frost likely. Low 2C. Winds will be light out of the NW.

Thursday: Will be a cool day as well, expect partly cloudy skies in the morning with mostly sunny skies in the afternoon only in the southeast and cloud in the southeast. I’m expecting a northwesterly wind, which will hinder temperatures from warming too much. As a result temperatures may not surpass the 20C mark , instead they will only reach the low to mid teens (11-15C).  Winnipeg: Partly Cloudy in the morning with mainly sunny skies in the afternoon high 14C, Brandon: Cloudy, high 10C.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy skies are expected for the night with winds out of the northwest. As a area of high pressure sits over the province a likelihood of frost will once again happen. Overnight lows are expected to drop into the low to mid single digits (2 to 5C). Make sure to cover up those plants!! Winnipeg: Clear, low 2C. Brandon: Clear low 4C.

Friday: Will be one of the warmer days of the week before a transition occurs into the weekend. Partly cloudy skies are expected for the day. High temperatures will soar into the mid to high teens (11-20C) . A few areas may surpass 20C. Winds will also be out of the NW. Winnipeg: Sunny, high 16C. Brandon : Sunny, high 19C.

Friday Night: Mainly clear skies are expected, there will be a chance for fog to develop in the Red River Valley. Frost will be less likely. Low temperatures are expected to drop into the mid to high single digits. Winnipeg: Clear, low 7C. Brandon: Clear, low 5C.

Saturday: Expect Sunny skies and winds to shift to the southwest. High temperatures will soar into the low 20’s, if smoke doesn’t filter in. Of note will be the potential for forest fire smoke from California and the southwestern states to filter in the province at upper levels. If this happens temperatures will only reach the mid to high teens. Winnipeg: 18-22C, Sunny or Hazy Skies Brandon: 17-23C. Sunny or hazy skies.

For the remainder of the weekend: There will be a low pressure system or 2 moving through the region with a chance of showers and or thunderstorms. High temperatures will be dependent on the smoke filtering in at upper levels if that happens there won’t be much allowance of temperatures to warm. If that happens there won’t be much heat to allow for thunderstorms to form on Sunday or Monday. Will keep you updated!!

Warm and Pleasant Weather ahead with a 2nd Round of Summer weather possible!!

Southern Manitoba will be getting into a few days of above normal temperatures, as a ridge starts building over the prairie provinces. It looks like summer will return for a second round possibly in the long range read on to find out more at the end of the blog post!

Beautiful weather expected for the day Saturday, highs in the mid teens to low 20’s enjoy!!

Tonight : Expect clear to partly cloudy skies with cloudy skies expected in SE MB, near the American border.  Low temperatures will drop into the high single digits to low teens (5 to 14C). The colder overnight lows are expected in the southwest portion of Manitoba. Brandon: Clear low 8C, Winnipeg: Partly cloudy low 12C.

Saturday: Will be one of the warmest days of the weekend. I’m expecting a cold front to move through the Manitoba escarpment and the red river valley into Ontario shortly before noon. Little to no precipitation is expected with its passage . As a result a mix of sun and cloud with partly cloudy skies expected for the day , there may be a odd pop up isolated shower or thunderstorm in the parklands region by Swan River. Of note the winds will shift to the NW in the late morning and afternoon hours. High temperatures will soar into the high teens to low 20’s for a majority of the south , (17C to 23C). Winnipeg: Partly cloudy high 22C, Brandon: Partly cloudy high 18C.

Saturday Night: Expect increasing clouds with a chance for showers overnight into Sunday morning . I’m not expecting much in the way of rain, generally a trace to 5mm. Otherwise expect mainly cloudy skies in the overnight hours, with the exception of the interlake regions where clear to partly cloudy skies expected. Overnight lows on Saturday night are expected to drop into the high single digits to the low teens (7 to 12C). I know it’s not as warm as what we are used to , however the good news is that no frost is expected. Winnipeg: Increasing cloud 40% chance of showers overnight, low  10C. Brandon: Mostly Cloudy, 30% chance of showers in the evening and after midnight low 7C.

Sunday: Will be one of the cooler days of the weekend behind the large cold front moving into the northern plains, following behind it an area of arctic high pressure will move southwards bringing a cool northerly wind. Sunny to partly cloudy skies are expected for the day on Saturday. As a result temperatures will not surpass the 20C mark compared to Saturday, I’m expecting high temperatures to rise into the mid to high teens (13-18C). Winnipeg: Sunny, high 18C, Brandon: Partly cloudy high 16C.

Sunday Night: The ridge will start building in from the west allowing for clouds to stream in from the NW, making for clear to partly cloudy skies for the night. Overnight lows will drop into the mid to high single digits across the south (4-9C), even colder in the interlakes in the low single digits (2-5C). Winnipeg: Partly cloudy, low 7C. Brandon: Partly cloudy, low 4C.

Monday: A ridge will establish itself over the Canadian prairie provinces on Monday , with central Manitoba being on the northern periphery of the ridge. There will likely be partly to mostly cloudy skies in the interlakes resulting in temperatures from (18-21C). Sunny to partly cloudy skies are expected in the southern half of the province. There will also be a chance for thunderstorms, starting in the afternoon in the SW moving into the SE by late evening. Will have to watch further model updates as there may be a risk severe severe thunderstorms during Monday and Monday night . This will be the start to a warm week as high temperatures soar into the low to mid 20’s (20-25C). Winnipeg: Partly cloudy chance of a late afternoon thunderstorm high 24C. Brandon partly cloudy, risk of thunderstorms in the afternoon. High 23C.

The rest of the Week: looks like there may be a chance for showers or thunderstorms on a few days. High temperatures will continue to be in the low to high teens fluctuating wildly day to day, some days during the week may reach 20°C and overnight lows dropping into the single digits. Drum Roll!!!! Summer might return for a 2nd round heading into the last part of the week with a arrival of temperatures above 20C possibly reaching summer time values as warm as 25+C.

Sudden Transition to fall weather with Frost

Southern Manitoba can expect a rapid transition over to fall weather as a large area of arctic air builds south.   The weather this week will affect a large majority of the province, bringing the potential for frost and possible record low temperatures. Read on to find out more.

A cooler than average temperature pattern is expected to start this week , be ready for some frost and the possibility of snow by the inter lakes.

Monday: Expect a mix of sun and cloud , with more cloud cover along areas of the international border. Showers will likely form and come off the lakes with the north winds,  streaming SE to S. Some of those might enter the red river valley if winds shift to the SE enough . It will also be one of the coldest days of the week, with temperatures cooler than seasonal average. Most of the average day time high temperatures will be in the low double digits (10-15C) Winnipeg: A mix of sun and cloud 40% chance of showers 12C. Brandon: A Mix of Sun and Cloud 11C.

Monday Night: Clear weather is expected with a chance for showers and local flurries over the lakes where most of the cloud will be. The reason for flurries is because a cold north wind is expected and colder temperatures above ground level might mix down. Given the clear weather there will be a risk for frost in the SE and frost in the SW as overnight lows will drop into the minus single digits in the SW to the low single digits for the rest of the south  (0 to 5C).  Winnipeg : Partly Cloudy, Risk of Frost Low 3C. Brandon: Clear with Frost Low -1C.

Tuesday: Will be another below seasonal day , sunny to partly cloudy skies are expected with a chance of showers by lake Winnipeg and Lake Manitoba.  Winds will continue to be out of the north to northwest , and high temperatures will be well below there average day time highs. I’m only expecting high temperatures to reach the low to mid teens (9 to 14C), this will be the last day of temperatures below 10C. Winnipeg: Sunny , High 13C. Brandon: Partly Cloudy, High 10C.

Tuesday Night: Clear Skies and cooler than average temperatures are expected. The good news is that there won’t be any showers by the lakes as winds shift to the west overnight. There also will be cool enough temperatures for the risk of widespread frost from SW Manitoba, towards south of Lake Manitoba into the interlakes. Temperatures are forecast to drop into the low minus single digits to the mid single digits (-3 to 5C). There also will be a risk of frost . Winnipeg: Clear, risk of frost low 3C, Brandon: Clear, frost low 0C.

Wednesday: Looks like a push of warm Pacific air will move into the province, as a warmer airmass looks to envelop the Canadian prairie provinces allowing for more seasonable temperatures into the region. I’m expecting mostly sunny skies with more cloud cover in the interlakes. High temperatures will soar into the mid to high teens for the day (14C to 19C). Winnipeg: Sunny High 17C, Brandon: Sunny High 18C.

Second half of the week:

The warm pacific air looks to continue moving east with warming temperatures towards the weekend in the low to mid 20s, with partly sunny to mostly sunny skies. Enjoy!

Rainy , Windy , Cool weather on the way

Headline : Southern Manitoba will be expecting another round of rainy and thundery weather as an area of low pressure moves into southern Manitoba. This will also bring in the start of seasonable to slightly below normal temperatures.

Wednesday : Will be one of those days that starts out cloudy , rain will enter the province in the early afternoon. There will be a likelihood of embedded thunderstorms in some heavier areas of rainfall that occur. The risk of heavy rainfall, strong winds up to 80km/h, and hail up to pennie or toonie size , with any thunderstorms that occur. There will only be CAPE up to 700 or 800 J/Kg. So storms will remain below severe limits. As for temperatures they will not budge much, rain will begin in the Southwest before noon which will mean that there won’t be much of a chance for the sun to get through the layer of clouds, and warm the temperatures. As a result I expect only high temperatures to reach the mid teens, before dropping to just a few degrees above ten celcius in the Southwest. A different story is expected in the Red River Valley and southeastern Manitoba where rain will not start until the afternoon hours, resulting in warmer temperatures. I’m expecting temperatures to budge into the low 20’s around noon before dropping to the mid teens . A high of 15C is expected for Brandon at 11am , dropping to 11C in the afternoon. A high of 21C is expected for Winnipeg dropping to 17C in the late afternoon.

Wednesday Night: Showers and thunderstorms are expected to clear by the mid to late evening , cloudy skies are expected overnight into Thursday . Winds will also be out of the NW, lows will drop into the high single digits (5 to 10C) in the SW and between 10 and 15C in the SE. A low of 9C is expected for Brandon with a low of 12C for Winnipeg.

Thursday : Cloudy skies are expected for the morning with a chance of showers in the southeastern half of Manitoba until shortly after noon . Expect a mix of sun and cloud for the remainder of the day with temperatures rising into the 15 to 20C range. A high of 20C is expected for Winnipeg and a high of  18C for Brandon.

Thursday Night: Will definitely be one of the colder nights, an area of cooler arctic air is expected to move south. The clearer skies will help temperatures drop into the single digits (5 to 10C) , areas by the lakes will experience warmer overnight lows in the low teens (8 to 12C) . I’m expecting a low of 7C for Winnipeg and 8C for Winnipeg .

Friday : Will be one of the warmer days a zonal flow will take over the Canadian prairie provinces, winds will be calm out of the west . High temperatures in the 15 to 20C range are expected for a majority of the southern half of Manitoba. Im forecasting A high of 22C for Brandon and a high of 21C for Winnipeg.

Friday Night: A building ridge of high pressure will start building in Saskatchewan this will allow for northerly winds into the region, there will also be cloudy skies in some sections however more so in the interlake regions. Overnight lows will drop below 10C they will remain in the mid to high single digits . A low of 8C is expected for Winnipeg and a low of 5C for Brandon.

The Weekend: Temperatures will continue to be in the mid to high teens to low 20s there also be a couple areas of low pressure Moving through the region on the weekend which may bring chance of showers to the region. If it gets warm enough there may be enough warmth for thunderstorms. Otherwise generally pleasant’s and seasonal conditions are expected.

Seasonable Temperatures with Well needed Moisture On the way for the weekend!

Well it looks like the weekend is here , I mean just one more day away. Friday (Who would have known Friday would start with the food name for Fries??) Anyways, it looks like we are entering into a cooler and slightly unsettled pattern this weekend thanks to a small ridge moving through our area and another area of low pressure to end the weekend. Let’s have a look to see what that means for us ...

(Above: Looking at the precipitation for the day Sunday , we could see amounts from 30-50+mm as showers and thunderstorms look to impact the region , areas out by extreme NE Manitoba may see amounts closer to 50-75mm. )

Friday: will be one of those days that start out unsettled with showers and thunderstorms in the southeastern corner of the province, clearing by the mid to late morning to early afternoon. Partly Sunny skies should be in place for the remainder of the day with winds out of the north it should help temperatures stay fairly comfortable , highs will be in the low to mid 20’s. I’m expecting a high temperature of 22C for Winnipeg and a high of 23C for Brandon.

Friday overnight: Expect clear skies as a area of high pressure sits overhead , winds will be light out of the north. This will be one of the first nights with temperatures below the ten degree mark , a few areas in rural regions of Sw Manitoba could drop as low as seven degrees. For the most part I’m expecting low temperatures between 7 and 15C. A low of 12C is expected for Winnipeg and a low of 8C is expected for Brandon.

Saturday: I’m expecting this to be one of the nicer days of the weekend, a large area of high pressure will be over the Southern prairie provinces which will be contributing to calm and pleasant conditions with very few clouds. The winds will be out of the north west with high temperatures for the majority of the day reaching the low 20s, if you are by the lakes temperatures will be closer to the 20°C mark and a few degrees below that. A high of 23C is expected for Winnipeg and a high of 21C for Brandon.

Saturday night: Will be a night with increasing clouds  with partly to mostly cloudy skies for the western portion of Manitoba as as an area of low pressure moves in from Saskatchewan. I’m not expecting much in the way of precipitation until the late morning hours on Sunday. Overnight lows will be mild only dropping into the mid teens with areas  , a low of 11C is expected for Brandon and a low of 15C for Brandon .

Sunday looks like it could be a unsettled day. An area of low pressure will be moving through southern Manitoba bringing a large area of moisture ahead of it from the gulf of Mexico. Before the cold front moves through temperatures will jump up into the mid 20s in the southeast, some areas may likely see higher temperatures possibly surpassing 25C. However the southwest where the rain will arrive earlier you may only see mid to high teens 15-20C. Expect showers and thunderstorms to impact a majority of southern Manitoba up into central regions of Manitoba where rain is needed . Most of the storms will remain non severe , a few storms may produce marginally severe hail. I’m expecting a high temperature of 25°C for Winnipeg and a high of 18C for Brandon .

Sunday night expect showers to linger for the remainder of the evening with clearing expected for the late evening. The factor for overnight low temperatures will depend on cloud cover, if the clouds can clear enough which looks plausible according to the models the lows will drop into the single digits for the southwest portion of Manitoba. Some areas in those regions could get closer to 5°C in rural areas. Here’s the catch in the southeast portion of Manitoba will be experiencing overnight lows in the low to mid teens. Why ? It look like the cold front will stall out as it enters NW Ontario which means a majority of the precipitation will be in that region, which will contribute to clouds keeping in the warmth over night. As a result I’m expecting temperatures to be on the mild side . A low of 5C can be expected for Brandon with Winnipeg sitting at 12C.

Second half of the week:

Brings a few more areas of low pressure that will move through southern Manitoba with high pressure following behind it. I’m expecting pleasant conditions with a chance for some sun mixed in the risk of showers or thunderstorms on Tuesday and Wednesday . High temperatures will continue to be in the Low to mid 20s with seasonable temperatures expected.
