Warmth building in slowly come Sunday afternoon. Thanks to a low pressure system slowly moving across the prairie provinces .
Friday: A weak low pressure system will be moving through southeastern sections of Manitoba during the early afternoon. The good news is that there isn’t much precipitation that will come along with this frontal system, a chance of some short but heavy bursts of snow is possible in southeastern sections of Manitoba. The good news is that calmer weather is forecast for the rest of the day,, cloudy skies are expected for areas of southeastern Manitoba and for the interlakes/red river valley. Much of southwestern Manitoba will be seeing sunny skies, the only caveat to this is that there will be increasing cloudcover for areas of the south into the evening hours. Temperatures for the daytime will rise into the low to mid single digits (3 to 7C) in southwestern Manitoba with cooler temperatures forecast for southeastern Manitoba (1 to 4C). Heading into Friday Night a high pressure system will be entering into southwestern sections of Manitoba. Heavier clouds are likely to move into the region, mainly along and south of the Manitoba lakes and the yellowhead, north of that clear skies are expected. A cool northwesterly flow will move into the area, as a result Temperatures will take a plunge once again below the freezing mark. Lows will end up in the low minus single digits (-1 to -8C) the colder lows will be over the Manitoba lakes (-7 to -12C) however a majority of the cold weather will be locked up in northern Manitoba with lows in the minus teens and minus twenties. . .Day: Winnipeg: Cloudy, 60% chance of flurries in the morning. High +4C. Brandon: Sunny, high +6C. Dauphin: Sunny, high +3C. Night: Winnipeg: Cloudy, low -2C. Brandon: Cloudy, then clearing by morning. Low -2C. Dauphin: Clear, low -4C.
Saturday: An upper level ridge will begin building into the province of Manitoba, by evening it should be over the western half of Manitoba. This will allow a northwesterly wind to take over mainly from 15 to 30km/h. A chance of some flurries are expected as you go into the afternoon hours however snowfall totals will not amount to much. Sunny skies are expected for the afternoon with cloudy skies rolling in come the evening hours. Temperatures for the day will soar into the mid to high single digits (3 to 8C) for much of the south, the only exception being the parklands, interlakes, central eastern Manitoba where the highs will only reach the low to mid single digits (1 to 4C). Heading into the overnight period the ridge of high pressure I mentioned will be moving into eastern Manitoba overnight then Ontario by morning. Clear skies are forecast for a large part of the night, some heavier cloud could filter into the western half of Manitoba by morning. Overnight lows will drop into the low to mid minus single digits (-2 to -5C) for a majority of the region. The only exception will be the Manitoba lakes areas where lows will likely drop below -10°C .Day: Winnipeg: Sunny, high 8C, Brandon: Partly cloudy, 30% chance of flurries in the afternoon. high 7C. Dauphin: Sunny then 30% chance of flurries in the afternoon. High +3C. Night: Winnipeg, clear low -4C. Brandon: Clear, then partly cloudy low -4C. Dauphin: Clear, then mostly cloudy low -3C.
Sunday: A broad ridge of high pressure will be moving east into Ontario, behind it a large upper Warm front will be moving to Southeastern Saskatchewan come the afternoon and evening hours on Sunday. As the warm front approaches the region I’m expecting heavier clouds to filter in by the early afternoon hours. The good news however is no precipitation is forecast for the day on Sunday. Temperatures on the day Sunday will soar into the mid to high single digits and low teens (1 to 12C) with some areas getting as warm as 10°C especially in the southwest. Heading into Sunday overnight I’m expecting partly cloudy skies for the evening with increasing cloud overnight with clearing skies come the morning hours. Temperatures overnight will once again drop into the low minus single digits in some patchy locations (-1 to -3C). Areas of the rest of the south can expect it to drop to a few degrees above freezing (0 to 5C). Day: Winnipeg: Cloudy, high 6C. Brandon: Mainly cloudy, clearing in the afternoon high 9C. Dauphin: Cloudy, clearing in the afternoon high 5C. Night... Winnipeg: Cloudy, clearing in the morning low 2C. Brandon: Cloudy, clearing in the morning. Low -1C. Dauphin: Cloudy, clearing by morning. Low 3C.
Start of the week: An unusually warm start to the week will occur, a large low pressure system will slide through the southern half of Manitoba on Monday. Track is still being worked out, however data is consistent on bringing a large area of temperatures in the high teens and low 20’s. There will be a risk of showers and non severe thunderstorms on Monday afternoon and evening. The warmth will not last long as a cold front moves through the region on Monday night. Its possible that we could end up dropping below zero for daytime highs for the first half of the week come Tuesday. Well update you on that come Monday!
