Warm Streak ends on a Unsettled Note

The beautiful warm weather that we have been experiencing over the past few weeks , looks to continue this week thanks to a southerly flow from a area of high pressure off in the northeastern United States by Lake Superior. That looks to end as we near the middle of the week, find out what we can expect weather wise below !!

Monday: Will be one of the most gorgeous days of the week, sunny skies will filter in with a southerly to southwesterly flow as a remnant high pressure system sits off in Michigan and the Great Lakes. There will be some cloud that will filter in come the late afternoon in southwestern Manitoba, temperatures will be hindered from rising much as a result. Temperatures for the afternoon will soar into the low to mid teens in the red river valley and including Winnipeg (+10 to 14C), elsewhere in regions of the interlakes and southeast Manitoba temperatures in the mid to high single digits are expected ( +5 to 10C). Southwestern Manitoba west of Brandon will only see temperatures in the low single digits ( +0 to +4 or +5C). Winnipeg: Sunny, High 15C. Brandon: Partly Cloudy, high 5C. Dauphin, Sunny high 10C.

Monday Night: A warm front will be moving into the region overnight into Tuesday, cloudy skies are expected with a mixture of rain and snow likely in areas of central Manitoba, parklands into the interlake regions with only 2 to 4cm expected. Southern sections of Manitoba will probably see rain showers off and on come the overnight, most of the snow should avoid southern regions.  Temperatures for overnight lows will drop into the low single digits (+2 to +5C). Areas by Dauphin will be around 0C. Winnipeg: Cloudy, 60% chance of showers overnight. Low +4C. Brandon: Cloudy, 30% chance of showers low +2C. Dauphin: Cloudy, rain mixed with snow beginning overnight.

Tuesday: The forecast gets a little bit complicated towards the day on Tuesday an area of low pressure will be in North Dakota as a result unsettled weather is expected. It looks like temperatures will be warm enough for rain in the afternoon in Southeastern Manitoba, there is also a risk for THUNDERSTORMS come the late morning and afternoon hours with CAPE in a range from 100-500 J/Kg and LI’s of -1 to -3, where areas further north in the Interlake region will be cold enough to support snow. That area of snow will gradually move east and south throughout the late afternoon hours. Southwestern Manitoba should see snow in the late afternoon hours, with light snow expected in the evening in the Red River Valley and eastern Manitoba. Rainfall wise 2 to 5mm can be expected, in terms of snowfall 15 to 30cm can be expected from southeastern Saskatchewan into the parklands,  5 to 10cm can be expected in the extreme southwestern sections of Manitoba, with 2 to 4cm expected in the southwestern sections of Manitoba. A trace to 2cm in the rest of southern sections of Manitoba. Temperatures for the day on Tuesday will soar into the high single digits and low double digits values in the Red River Valley region (8 to 12C). Elsewhere temperatures will warm into the low single digits values ( 0 to 5C) in areas of southwestern Manitoba, southeastern sections and the Interlake regions. Winnipeg: Cloudy 60% chance of showers, risk of thunderstorms high 11C. Brandon: Cloudy, periods of rain mixed with snow in the afternoon. High +5C. Dauphin: Cloudy, snow. Amount 10 to 20. High -1C.

Tuesday Night: That area of low pressure I mentioned will be moving out of the region, along with a cold front moving through as indicated with the blue and red lines meeting up (above photo. The band of snow will be moving east into northern Ontario, mostly cloudy skies are expected for areas of eastern Manitoba with clear skies expected in western portions of the province. Once all the snow is done in central regions, only another 5cm is expected on top of the 15 already. Temperatures overnight will drop into the mid to high minus single digits (-4 to -10C), with the exception of areas from north of Brandon into the parklands regions where temperatures will drop into the low minus teens (-10 to -15C). Winnipeg: cloudy, flurries ending in the evening. Low -5C. Brandon: Light snow in the evening, then clearing. Low -9C. Dauphin: Snow ending overnight then clearing, amount 5 to 10 cm. Low -10C.

Wednesday : Cooler air will filter into the region with a area of high pressure sitting off in Alberta and another low pressure system in the northern plains. This setup will prevent our temperatures from rising too much. Increasing cloud is expected towards the latter half of the day. Most of the heavy precipitation should miss us off to the south in Minnesota and South Dakota. Temperatures for the day on Wednesday will soar into the low single digits (+1 to +4C for areas of the red river valley, areas west of Brandon, the southern interlakes and extreme southwestern Manitoba.  Temperatures will vary from 0 to -4C for areas west of Brandon, into the Manitoba escarpment, Lake Manitoba and southeastern Manitoba. Winnipeg: Sunny, high +2C. Brandon: Sunny, high 0C. Dauphin: Sunny, high +1C.

Wednesday Night: Mostly cloudy skies are expected along the American border and in the parklands into central Manitoba, with lighter cloud in southern Manitoba. A high pressure system will be sitting off in southwestern Manitoba by morning. Overnight low temperatures will be unfortunately dropping into the high minus single digits to low minus teens  (-10 to -14C) . Where only lows in the mid to high minus single digits are expected from the parklands into central Manitoba (-2 to -8C). Winnipeg: Partly cloudy, low -10C. Brandon: Clear, cloudy by morning low -11C. Dauphin: Cloudy, low -4C.

Second half of the week: A cold front will be moving through the region on Thursday as a result our temperatures will drop to slightly below normal for this time of year thanks to a trough of low pressure.  For the second half of the week, our daytime highs will sit in the low to mid minus single digits (0 to -6C), and overnight lows in the low to mid minus teens between (-10 and -16C). Brrrr. A slight warmup is possible for the weekend . We’ll see!! Until then , enjoy this slow but sure transition to spring!
